LGBTQ+ Blog – Post 3
We accepted a new member to the LGBTQ+ subgroup and couldn’t be happier, as she shares
our passion and commitment to inclusivity, welcome Kirsten! Additionally, we had our first
meeting with our mentor from LGBT Scotland Georgios, to talk through everything that’s
required to achieve the Gold Standard Charter Award. He was able to walk us through the
objectives of the charter, whilst fielding all our questions and queries as they arose. It is safe
to say we are in good hands, as they are very much hands on when it comes to their clients.
We all felt more confident after the meeting, having a reliable mentor with a wealth of
knowledge and advice to rely on, will definitely bolster our path to success.
There is a lot of work involved in achieving this award, but we are all steadfast in our resolve
and motivated by the goal, which is inclusivity for everyone. On reflection, I think this might
be something that most of us take for granted, as we are represented and welcomed by society
as a whole. Unfortunately, the people in the LGBTQ+ community struggle for acceptance,
safety, and a sense of belonging in some groups and organisations they encounter. Keeping
that in mind, we hope that MAF can be one of those safe havens, where everyone feels they
can be themselves, in a safe and welcoming environment, where everyone is treated equally.
All updates will be posted here regarding our progress, including events, training, and policy
changes. As always, we appreciate your support.
