Gold Star Success

MAF was delighted to get unqualified praise three years ago from Investors in People, gaining Silver Status. In late 2016 we decided to prepare for a review over Spring and Summer 2017, aiming to retain that high standard. A very thorough range of surveys, visits and interviews to check how we are performing as an organisation was carried out by assessor Nicola Deacon. A great deal of work had to be co-ordinated by Director Gillian Urquhart, and various sessions were needed with a wide range of people. Included in the confidential feedback survey were Trustees, Staff and Volunteers.
“I was over the moon when Founder Sandra and I met with Nicola at the end of a pretty intensive but ultimately very worthwhile exercise,” comments Gillian, “as it was made clear we were not only holding onto the Silver Status, but had achieved the Gold Award. As it turns out to be the first time the assessor has awarded it to date in Scotland, it felt very special indeed not just for me, but for the whole team. We’ve come a long way in the last 3 years… but it’s clearly in the right direction!”
Sandra agreed. “MAF has made real progress since its launch in 2000. Every voluntary agency has ups and downs due to funding uncertainties – we’re no different and hard decision may need made. With Gillian’s exemplary skills, though, recently we’ve made huge strides to ensure good practice; a fantastic IIP Report like this one awarding top marks not only reassures funders of our integrity as a charity, but keeps people willing to stay involved, and attracts new folk to come on board. What a hugely positive result!”
There were celebrations all round for Gillian and the staff team she leads so ably, as well as delight for Chair Maggie Docherty who leads our Trustees.
