Becoming A Volunteer

The Moira Anderson Foundation is very fortunate to have volunteers who help us with various aspects of the charity.

Volunteers help in various roles within the charity; one of the most important is fundraising. If you are happy to help organise and/or attend events, we’d love to hear from you. Aside from helping with events, the fundraising role can include tasks such as organising and/or attending bag pack days in Supermarkets, collecting/delivering collection cans in local shops/bars and sourcing raffle prizes for events, or for us to raffle online.

Other activities include helping with reception (MAF choses which volunteers are suitable to undertake further training for this important role) handi-person jobs around the centre, gardening, giving talks about MAF’s work to groups such as Women’s Guilds, and help at networking events.

In addition to support at our base in Airdrie, we also need assistance in our Glasgow Hub. Activities in Glasgow are focused more within the Hub and networking events, rather than fundraising.

Initial training is for a period of 3 weeks, usually one evening per week. Thereafter Safe Hands training is offered. Volunteers at present range from age 18 to 70+ and come from all walks of life.

Our volunteers have many qualities that reflect our Values. They are committed, honest, team players, reliable, and most importantly, trustworthy and value confidentiality highly. As part of our recruitment process you will be required to complete a Disclosure, possibly a PVG (depending on your role).

Volunteering offers many benefits to people. It can help to build confidence, improve your CV and therefore your employment prospects (if that’s your goal), the chance to work alongside people with similar values, building connections with like minded people and perhaps most importantly, it provides a wonderful sense of ‘giving back’ to the community.

Please note that we will be holding an open night for people interested in volunteering for MAF on January 14th 2025. Please get in touch if you’re interested in coming along, or would just like to ask some questions. Those chosen to proceed to training will be advised shortly thereafter, and training will begin in early February.
